WHAT IS

 COLOR BLINDNESS? 

Color blindness occurs when you are unable to see colors in a normal way. It is also known as color vision deficiency - the inability to clearly distinguish different colors of the spectrum. The difficulties can be mild to severe.

 

WHO'S MOST AT RISK FOR COLOR BLINDNESS?

Color blindness affects approximately every 1 in 12 man (8%) and 1 in 200 women (0.5%). This means there is definitely one colorblind men in your neighborhood or at your workplace. 

There are more than 300 million color blind people in the world and many of them don't know it yet! 

  •  Is it possible to have normal color vision and then become color vision deficient?

    Yes, There are congenital color vision deficiencies (you are born with it) and acquired color vision deficiencies. Acquired deficiencies affect 15% of the general population, which is more than congenital deficiencies. It can be due to ocular or systemic diseases (diabetes, cataracts, macular degeneration, glaucoma, etc.), toxicity of medications (Plaquenil, antidepressants like Prozac, oral contraceptives like Nolvadex, etc.), occupational exposures, and trauma of the eye or head.

  • How can I find out if I am Color Blind?

COLOR BLINDNESS 

Anomalous Trichromacy:
Anomalous Trichromacy is the most common category of color blindness. It is an impairment of normal color vision, not a complete loss. 

Dichromacy:
It is a moderately severe color vision defect in which one of the three basic color mechanisms is absent or not functioning. It is hereditary. 

Monochromacy:
People suffering under monochromacy, perceive everything just in shades of gray.
